Mortality and Memory is a space to remember the people behind the numbers while also working toward change.

We know that homelessness takes a toll on the body, mind, and spirit. Too many people who experience homelessness die far too early, often from causes that are preventable.

Here, you can learn more about Nevada Homeless Alliance’s annual memorial efforts, view information from our previous vigil, report the loss of a loved one or community member who experienced homelessness, and express interest in joining Nevada’s developing Homeless Mortality Working Group.

Through remembrance, better information, and statewide collaboration, we hope to honor those we have lost and help prevent future deaths.

Reporting the Loss of a Loved One

First and foremost, please accept our deepest condolences.

At Nevada Homeless Alliance, we understand that grief is heavy. We also know that people who pass away while experiencing homelessness are not always named, remembered, or fully represented in the ways they deserve.

We want to help change that.

Nevada Homeless Alliance collects information about individuals who have passed away while experiencing homelessness in Southern Nevada so their lives can be acknowledged, honored, and remembered.

If you have lost a loved one, friend, neighbor, client, or community member who was experiencing homelessness at the time of their passing, we invite you to share what you feel comfortable sharing.

Every life deserves to be remembered.

Nevada Homeless Mortality Working Group Interest Form

Thank you for your interest in joining the Nevada Homeless Mortality Working Group.

Inspired by the National Health Care for the Homeless Council’s Homeless Mortality Working Group, Nevada is beginning to build a statewide group focused on understanding, documenting, and addressing deaths among people experiencing homelessness.

We hope to bring together individuals from communities across Nevada, including people with lived experience, service providers, health care professionals, researchers, advocates, public agencies, and others who are interested in this work.

The group will create space for shared learning, collaboration, and discussion around homeless mortality data, reporting practices, prevention, remembrance, and opportunities for statewide coordination.

Meetings are expected to be held virtually to make participation accessible to individuals throughout Nevada.
